Buying solar panels: what to look for

A practical buyer's guide for solar panels: panel types, comparing brands and installers, warranty, quotes and what to check before you sign.

When buying solar panels, look beyond price at the whole package: panel, inverter, mounting, warranty and the installer. A good quote spells those out clearly.

Which panels fit your roof?

Panels differ in power, looks and price. On a small roof you often pick high power per panel; on a large roof, price per watt-peak matters more. We explain the difference between cell types on the monocrystalline versus polycrystalline comparison page.

Comparing brands and installers

Look for A-brands with solid warranty terms and an installer with experience and their own fitters. Ask for references and reviews. The mounting and finish shape your result as much as the panel itself.

A reliable company explains why it proposes certain panels and a certain inverter, and what happens if something ever fails.

Warranty and certificates

There is product warranty (on the panel), performance warranty (how much the panel still delivers after years) and warranty on the installation. Ask about all three. Certified installers work to fixed safety and quality standards.

Comparing quotes fairly

Line up quotes on the same points: watt-peak rating, inverter type, mounting materials, warranties and what is included. The cheapest line is rarely the full bill.

Not sure? Send us your quote and we will happily review it.
